Tools and Design Wizards

In addition to a powerful NURBS modeller, jSDN includes a collection of tools and wizards that are focused to allow fast prototyping, thus increasing productivity compared to other boat design packages. Different tools allow basic calculations to be performed on the current selected jSDN element. In particular there are tools for:

Load management. Manual or automatic weight and COG calculation. For automatic calculations, it can be specified material type and skin thickness, and the weight is computed as a solid, as a layer, or by providing surface or linear weight. In addition, the global weight and COG is automatically updated.

Bare hull calculations. Calculation of basic parameters of a bare hull, including sizes (Loa, Bmax, Lwl, Bwl, Dc, Tc), form coefficients (Cp, Cb, Cm, Cw), longitudinal centers (LCB, LCF, CLP) and displacement.

Sail measurement. Measurement of the IMS parameters corresponding to the sail subtype definition (mainsail, jib/genoa, spinnaker), displaying actual and rated areas (Spanish RN or IMS).

Different wizard modules allow the generation of NURBS surfaces from curves and parameters. In particular there are modules for:

Sail design. Bermuda mainsail and jib/genoa, symmetrical and asymmetrical spinnakers from standard measurements parameters. Output of real and rated areas (Spanish RN and IMS).

Appendages design. Keel, rudder and bulb from a profile curve and up to three different foil shapes along the span (NACA 4 & 5 digit series, or X-Foil offsets files), with linear interpolation.

Extrusion/Revolution surfaces design. Generation of surfaces by extrusion or revolution of a master curve along/around an axis.
